One point perspective can be a challenge to teach. The vocabulary can be daunting, and interest soon fades. I found grid paper is a great way to help calm axieties of trying to draw a straight line. Also names are naturally engaging.
Sixth graders studied cool and warm color schemes. We then used wet on wet watercolor technique to paint the background in either cool or warm colors then used a wet on dry technique to paint the bird using the opposite color scheme.
