To introduce this lesson we watched this cute video about Matisse. We looked at his work and how he created rooms using, perspective and color. We took our lesson in One Point Perspective a little further and created themed rooms. Students used color pencils to add value and create depth through shading.
Sixth Graders learned to create paper masks. Based on the video by Peggy Flores, students learned various paper techniques to create these amazing forms. Want to make your own mask, check out the planning sheet I have available.
After learning about how Sir. Isaac Newton created the color wheel, students set off to create their own. Want to try this lesson yourself? All of the documents I created are available for purchase at https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Creative-Color-Wheel-Project-4298251
Sixth graders studied cool and warm color schemes. We then used wet on wet watercolor technique to paint the background in either cool or warm colors then used a wet on dry technique to paint the bird using the opposite color scheme.
